Pain

Small people, clothed in pain, desperate,
dirty people, dusty, disheveled,
wearing their pride for pain bandages,
pride like armor, protecting the pain;
some pain is good.

Some kinds of pain grow into valor;
small people, dressed in pain, valorous,
desperate people, good stuff within,
under their pain coats, inside the pride;
some pain is good.

Some pain reminds us: we are alive;
desperation, dust, dirt, and our pride;
small people: growing, growing, growing,
sewing new pain-wear, new pride jackets;
some pain is good.

So much pain that we can harvest it,
pack it into pain-sacks, strap it on,
take it to the big people. Watch out!
Our pain will dishevel you. Feel it?
Some pain for you!
